Trubolt +® Seismic Wedge Type Anchor

Purchase Wedge Anchors

Description

The Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor body is made from carbon steel that is zinc plated. One end of the threaded body is threaded with national coarse threads, the other end is necked down with an expansion clip that is round with undercut grooves and permanently affixed to the anchor body. The proper size and quantity of nuts and washers are included in the packaging. The Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor is not available in other materials such as hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel.

Inspectability

The threaded end of the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor wedge is stamped with a letter that corresponds with a long range. This length range allows for embedment inspection after the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor wedge anchor has been installed. When inspecting, first determine the diameter of Trubolt®. Then measure the length of the anchor above the surface, subtracting this number from the corresponding length. The identification letter range will equal the embedment depth of the anchor. This information then can be compared to the minimum embedment for this diameter in order to ensure that the anchor has been installed correctly. Below are the charts showing the letter identification and corresponding length of the anchor as well as the minimum embedment depth by anchor diameter.

Product Information

There are four diameters available for the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor: 3/8”, 1/2”, 5/8” and 3/4”. Each diameter comes in a number of different lengths to accommodate different thickness of materials being fastened and deeper embedments. The diameter of the hole to drill in the concrete for the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor is equal to the diameter of wedge anchor being installed. Each length has a maximum thickness of material that can be fastened down to ensure that the minimum embedment for that anchor is met.

Installation

When installing a Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor, a carbide tipped bit must be used with a hammer drill with the hammer drill set in the hammer and rotation mode. The carbide tipped bit must meet ANSI standards B212.15-1994 to ensure proper tolerance between anchor diameter and hole diameter. The appropriate bit must be used because hole tolerance is critical to ensure proper holding values.

  1. Use a carbide drill bit with a diameter equal to the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor diameter.
  2. Drill hole 1/4” deeper than anchor embedment in order to create extra space for any debris created during the installation to fall into and out of the way.
  3. Clean hole with pressurized air or vacuum to remove any dust and debris that may affect installation. Thread the nut that is provided onto the threaded end of the anchor bolt, leaving it 1/2” turn from the end to protect the threads during installation.
  4. Using a hammer, drive the anchor through the fixture being fastened into the hole in the concrete until the nut and washer are flush with the surface of the fixture.
  5. Expand the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor to the specified torque setting, which is approximately 3-5 turns. Make sure that the
  6. CAUTION IS Needed when installing the Trubolt® seismic wedge type anchor.
